Next week marks the eighth edition of the Laver Cup—and the first to be staged in San Francisco. The annual showdown between Team Europe and Team World will take place at Chase Center from September 19–21, with Europe holding a 5-2 edge in the all-time series.
Team World looks a lot different after the late withrawals of Ben Shelton, Tommy Paul Frances Tiafoe.

Replacing them will be Alex Michelsen, Reilly Opelka and Alex de Minaur.
Team World has added World No.8 Alex de Minaur in place of Frances Tiafoe (No.29).
“We will miss Frances’ energy and game in San Francisco,” said Team World captain Andre Agassi. “However, we couldn’t be more thrilled to add one of the best and most in-form players in the world to our team. I’ve admired the way Alex plays and competes from afar and now look forward to having a front row seat to watching him perform.”
De Minaur, Australia’s top-ranked player, had initially been unavailable due to post–US Open travel plans, but accepted the late call from Agassi and vice-captain Pat Rafter. A quarter-finalist at six of the last eight Grand Slams, including this year’s Australian Open and US Open, the 25-year-old has collected 10 ATP Tour singles titles, highlighted by his triumph at this year’s ATP 500 in Washington.
“It’s an honour to join Captain Agassi and Team World in San Francisco next week,” said De Minaur. “My first Laver Cup back in 2022 in London was an incredible experience and I will be ready to give it everything I’ve got to help the team lift the Laver Cup at Chase Center.”
Team Europe edged Team World 13-11 last year in Berlin, but Team World claimed the two editions before that, in Vancouver (2023) and London (2022). Europe dominated the first four competitions, winning in Prague (2017), Chicago (2018), Geneva (2019), and Boston (2021).
